FSU football has had a lack of talent at the tight-end position over the last decade. They haven’t signed a five-star tight end since Nick O’Leary in the 2011 recruiting class.

O’Leary ranked as the No. 27 player overall and No. 1 tight end nationally, who became an integral part of FSU’s success and a national championship under Jimbo Fisher.

The tight end position is an important part of Mike Norvell’s offense, and they have tried to upgrade the position with several bodies over the last few recruiting cycles. However, they could be on the verge of gaining a game-changer in five-star recruiting target Landen Thomas.

Thomas is a former FSU commit (April 2021) that de-committed (October 2021) and committed to Georgia in July 2022. However, Thomas has never stopped visiting FSU and building relationships with the coaching staff.

He visited FSU in November 2021, but those visits multiplied after FSU’s success on the field in 2022. Thomas visited FSU in January 2023 and twice in April 2023, including the spring game last week. That was the same day Georgia had their spring game.

He hasn’t officially de-committed yet but has removed his UGA commit status from his Twitter profile in recent days.

Another thing favoring the Noles is recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong, who predicted Thomas to flip from Georgia to the Noles Monday morning with a six confidence rating.

Thomas ranks as the No. 24 player overall and the No. 1 tight end in the 2024 recruiting class. He’s also from Georgia, a state that has historically been great to FSU football. FSU has momentum on the recruiting trail and seems to be trending for several high-quality blue-chip players.

A flip from Thomas at any point would be massive and would address a huge need at tight end. He would be the second player from Georgia (Kameron Davis) committed to FSU, ranked top five overall from that state.

I don’t know when it will happen, but things look like they could be heading towards a flip for the Noles.
