FSU softball: Major takeaways as Noles sweep series at No. 4 Clemson
By Kelvin Hunt
No. 6 FSU softball (32-7, 11-1 ACC) made a major statement over the past two days as they went to No. 4 Clemson (37-4, 12-3) and swept the series from the Tigers.
The Noles swept Thursday’s doubleheader with scores of 7-0 and 4-1 while never trailing.
However, the Tigers would not be swept without a fight, as they took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth after FSU responded to tie the game.
It has become typical FSU fashion, scratching and clawing to find ways to win. The Noles brought two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead and eventual final score to earn the series sweep.
Josie Muffley stealing home on a failed pickoff attempt was the deciding factor. FSU won the game despite committing three errors, which playing cleaner defense is something they had done much better with in the doubleheader.
Clemson had lots of momentum heading into this series, winners of 29 straight at home, and their lone loss happening on February 25th.
However, I mentioned they had not played a tough schedule like the Noles and how that could play a factor in the series.
Let’s look at some major takeaways.
