Veterans like Jared Verse and Fabien Lovett are known commodities, and other players are still rehabbing injuries, which has allowed some younger players to get more reps.

The defensive players that have stood out the most seem to be the following:

  • Darrell Jackson Jr.
  • Patrick Payton
  • Joshua Farmer
  • Quindarrius Jones
  • Greedy Vance
  • Jarrian Jones
  • Fentrell Cypress

Darrell Jackson might have been the most dominant player in spring camp over the first couple of weeks. When locked in, he’s someone that will give opposing offensive lines nightmares.

Patrick Payton is the most improved player on the team according to Adam Fuller. The departure of Derrick McLendon makes him even more valuable, and I think he’ll in line to have a great season.

Joshua Farmer has been dominant according to Mike Norvell. Farmer showed promise last year, but another year under his belt and a loaded defensive line means he’ll make even more of an impact.

Newcomer Quindarrius Jones has received high-praise from the coaching staff. The freshman is physically ready, but just needs more experience to become a factor. If he keeps progressing, there’s a chance he could help the Noles in 2023.

Greedy Vance has improved a lot over last year, and the absence of Kevin Knowles from spring camp might have opened the door for Vance to win the nickel back spot. His consistency has improved a lot.

Jarrian Jones is having a great spring camp after showing a lot of improvement last season. It couldn’t have come at a better time as the Noles have some question marks in the secondary. If Jones becomes who we think he can? The FSU secondary will have great versatility and better depth than we thought.

Fentrell Cypress has come on strong in the past week or two after slowly acclimating to life in Tallahassee. He has a couple of interceptions and looks to be gaining confidence among his new teammates. The UVA transfer is taking reps at cornerback and nickel, and will play a ton of snaps for the Noles in 2023.
