Offense

The veterans have been on snap counts, but players like Jordan Travis, Johnny Wilson, and Trey Benson have done what we know they can do.

The offensive line continues to mix and match with a couple of guys banged up, but I trust it’ll be an improved unit in 2023.

The offensive players that have stood out the most seem to be the following:

  • Kentron Poitier
  • Rodney Hill
  • Jaheim Bell
  • Kyle Morlock
  • Vandrevius Jacobs
  • AJ Duffy

Poitier made great strides in 2022 but seems to have taken his game to a new level since the season concluded. He’s been consistent in practice and will look to build on last season. Poitier had 14 receptions(four were touchdowns) and averaged 20.21 yards per reception. It’s possible he’ll surpass 30 receptions in 2023 and become an increased red-zone target.

Rodney Hill flashed last year but has added size to compliment his speed. I thought Caziah Holmes would seize more headlines in spring camp, but it’s Hill who’s seized the opportunity from the looks of things. Hill could become Treshaun Ward 2.0 in 2023.

Jaheim Bell is everything the coaching staff thought he would be coming from the transfer portal. Bell will be a weapon they can implore all over the field and consistently makes plays at practice. He’ll be a big part of the offense in 2023.

Kyle Morlock took some time to acclimate after joining the program from Shorter University. However, Morlock has flashed quite a bit over the past couple of weeks and will be a matchup nightmare for linebackers, safeties, and defensive backs.

Vandrevius Jacobs has had one of the best spring camps for a freshman receiver that I can remember. He has made plays every practice and folks genuinely expect him to become a contributor in year one. That’s extremely rare in today’s game, but Jacobs has the makings of a guy that could be extremely productive in Mike Norvell’s offense.

AJ Duffy has benefited from the arrival of freshman Brock Glenn. The redshirt freshman has had a good spring camp so far, and looks to make it a competition with Tate Rodemaker for the backup QB spot.
