FSU softball (28-7, 7-1 ACC) run-ruled the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 8-0 to win the series behind an outstanding performance from Michaela Edenfield Saturday afternoon.

Edenfield is a player that’s been struggling at the plate, but her 3-3 performance with six RBI is the type of offensive production the Noles have been missing for large parts of the year.

Another bat that’s been struggling, Mack Leonard, continues to have a great series, going 2-3 in Saturday’s contest. Devyn Flaherty went 1-2 with a walk.

Those players were who I highlighted in the series preview that needed to pick it up at the plate, and they answered the call. Ali DuBois picked up the win with four innings pitched, allowing one hit, one walk, and two strikeouts. Allison Royalty pitched the final frame.

FSU batters had nine hits, and six walks and didn’t have one batter strikeout in Saturday’s contest. Edenfield got the Noles on the board in the second inning with a line-drive single to left center. However, her grand slam in the bottom of the fourth gave the Noles a 5-0 lead.

Kalei Harding had an RBI fielders choice in the inning to make it 6-0. Edenfield’s third hit of the day, a single to right field, gave the Noles a 7-0 lead in the fifth, and a Kaley Mudge single up the middle was the icing on the cake to end the game via the 8-0 run-rule in five innings.

The final Edenfield hit was probably the best thing I’ve seen in a while because she didn’t try to pull an outside pitch and hit the ball to the right side with some authority. Hopefully, this is a sign of things, as FSU’s most productive hitters from last year seem to be hitting their stride.

The Noles will go for the sweep Sunday, with the first pitch at 2 p.m. on the ACC Network.
