FSU football: Thoughts on 3-star Keishawn Mashburn de-commitment
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football lost its lowest-ranked commit in the 2024 recruiting cycle Thursday morning.
Three-star defensive tackle Keishawn Mashburn announced he was de-committing from his FSU football pledge after careful consideration with his family.
Mashburn ranked as the No. 1,113 player and No. 101 defensive tackle in the recruiting class.
Mashburn committed in July 2022 and has been on campus as recent as March 21st.
FSU now has one defensive linemen commit in the 2024 recruiting class.
Thoughts
Keishawn Mashburn is a player that has visited FSU football at least seven times since committing in July 2022. He was on campus in January and had been active on social media promoting the Tribe24 recruiting class.
He mentioned FSU is a place he’s always wanted to attend in January and wished position coach Odell Haggins Happy Birthday on social media last month.
This de-commitment has all the makings of the staff accepting a commitment early in the recruiting cycle, banking on the player developing over the upcoming year or so. Mashburn visiting campus so recently and de-committing shortly after makes me think the staff probably told him to look elsewhere.
It’s not like his profile has increased since committing, and he’s still undersized compared to FSU’s other defensive tackle commit Jamorie Flagg. FSU signed a quality defensive tackle prospect, Keith Sampson, in the last recruiting cycle and has several young defensive tackle prospects on the roster.
They can afford to be selective at the position considering the quality of defensive tackle prospects they have gotten on campus in this recruiting cycle.
If that’s what happened, that allows the recruit to open his recruitment up to find another suitable option with plenty of time left in the recruiting cycle instead of going silent on him and leaving him with few options as the Early Signing Period approaches in December.
I wish him nothing but success in the future.
