FSU football took in its first 2023 spring scrimmage Saturday. As we noted in the expectations piece, it was a situational scrimmage, but Mike Norvell was happy with what transpired overall.

I thought Jordan Travis would have limited reps, but turns out he didn’t participate at all, allowing the backup quarterbacks to vie for all of the snaps to aid their development.

Mike Norvell had ACC referees at the practice and communicated there were far too many penalties.

However, that’s to be expected, with 19 newcomers and the veterans likely playing limited snaps.

Norvell noted several offensive explosive plays were affected by penalties. I’d expect those types of things will get cleaned up with more reps in the system for the newcomers.

Tate Rodemaker and AJ Duffy got most of the snaps with the first team, but freshman Brock Glenn shined with the second and third teams. As I’ve noted, Glenn’s presence is pushing Duffy, who didn’t have any pressure to develop as a freshman, and only two more scholarship QBs on the roster.

Norvell noted several players by name: Rodney Hill, Patrick Payton, and Vandrevius Jacobs specifically. Norvell felt the defense had the upper hand, which should be the expectation with so much of that unit returning from last year.
