Secondary

The FSU football secondary had one of the top defenses against the pass in 2022. They only allowed a completion rate of 56 percent(58 percent in 2021), defended 45 passes (defended 43 in 2021) and had eight interceptions (14 in 2021).

FSU defensive backs were in position for at least five or more interceptions and couldn’t make the play to get that result. The good news is the Noles have talent in the secondary unit and return all their key players aside from All-ACC safety Jammie Robinson.

Omarion Cooper had transitioned to safety after an injury-riddled 2022. Can he become a factor in that position? Will Travis Jay finally become a contributor?

Will Shyheim Brown become the player the coaches think he can be? Kevin Knowles will miss all of spring, so which player will emerge in his absence? Is that Greedy Vance or Jarrian Jones at the nickel spot?

Renardo Green likely has one cornerback spot locked down, and the assumption is Fentrell Cypress would be the other starting corner.

Can former top 100 player Azareye’h Thomas challenge for more playing time as he did towards the end of the 2022 season?

Lots of questions here, but overall I think this unit will miss Jammie Robinson but continue to improve under Patrick Surtain and Adam Fuller.
