Jalen Ramsey dishes on Miami Hurricanes after signing with Dolphins
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football standout Jalen Ramsey made waves this week by getting traded and signing with the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins gave up a 2023 third-round pick and tight end, Hunter Long to the LA Rams.
In typical Jalen Ramsey style, he wasted no time announcing what’s what when it came to the Miami Hurricanes.
Ramsey spoke on the reception Miami Dolphin(and Hurricane) fans gave him after the signing became official.
Ramsey was part of a seven-year stretch where FSU football dominated the Miami Hurricanes from 2010-16. Ramsey played against the Hurricanes in 2013, 2014, and 2015 games and never lost.
However, it was the 2014 game where he seemingly took the game over batting passes down, forcing fumbles, and securing an interception late to put the game away.
It’s funny Ramsey said he grew up a Miami fan, although he committed to USC and flipped to FSU near National Signing Day in February 2013. He told the story of how the flip to FSU happened last year here.
Ironically, Al Golden was the coach of the Miami Hurricanes back then, so I’m sure hearing they didn’t offer Ramsey would open some old wounds, considering he impacted that rivalry game seemingly every year. It’ll be interesting to see what Ramsey has left in the tank after several years, considered the premier defensive back in the NFL.
He has made six consecutive Pro Bowls (2017-2022) and will turn 29 years old in October. He continued to play at a high level in 2022, with career highs in passes defended and tying his career high in interceptions with four.
He also had a career-high in tackles, but that does seem to signify teams may be challenging him more than in years past. Nevertheless, I’m sure he’ll bring entertainment value to Miami, and hopefully, he continues to represent the Noles and play at a high level.
