FSU football: Thoughts on Destyn Hill potential 2023 arrival news
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football 2021 blue-chip wide receiver signee Destyn Hill has become an urban legend. The highest-rated signee in the class never made it to campus after reports of delayed enrollment got pushed back every semester since.
I always thought it was weird FSU could land a player of that caliber from Louisiana coming off a three-win season, and I guess the local schools knew something others didn’t and why they may not have pursued as heavily.
Nevertheless, when a report surfaced in late 2022 that Hill would enroll in May 2023, I scoffed at it like everyone else.
However, the same guy reports Hill is still on schedule to do just that.
I’m still in believe it when I see it mode with Hill. Also, IF Hill happens to enroll in May, we have to remember he hasn’t played competitive football in nearly three years.
He might be working out, but it’s nothing close to what he would have had exposure to if he were in FSU’s strength and conditioning program during that time.
Also, FSU looks to enroll likely four high school wide receivers in the 2024 recruiting class after signing three in the 2023 class. I’m rooting for the young and hope he makes it to campus, but I want to sprinkle a dose of reality into the situation.
He’s not going to come in and put up 40 receptions for 500 yards and five touchdowns this fall. It would likely be a year or two at least before he could become a contributor since he’d miss spring camp.
I trust this coaching staff, and they must feel like Hill still has some special qualities to honor the pledge. It would be a good feel-good story that would match Norvell’s message about working to overcome adversity. Now, we sit and wait to see if this news finally comes to fruition.
