Omarion Cooper Move To Safety

FSU coaches openly spoke about moving Omarion Cooper from cornerback to safety a couple of weeks ago, and it might be one of the most important moves this offseason.

The loss of leading tackler and All-ACC safety, Jammie Robinson, is a big one. However, Cooper got experience as a freshman in 2021 and proved he can play at a high level.

FSU defensive coordinator Adam Fuller likes the traits Cooper has to move to safety. However, spring camp will be important in Cooper’s development in the position.

I don’t expect him to play at the same level as Robinson, but if he can be competent, that would be a big boost to the FSU defense.

The FSU defensive line being better than last year and Fentrell Cypress likely taking over one of the cornerback spots should help take some of the pressure off that unit.

Renardo Green could improve under the tuteledge of new defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain. Cooper had a great spring camp last year before an injury derailed his 2022 season, and he never got back to 100 percent.

If he can learn the position, that would go a long way to improving the area on the defense with the biggest questions.
