FSU Has To Leave The ACC

FSU football has to leave the ACC within the next few years if it wants to compete for national championships.

It’s leave or die. I liken it to being in a burning building and running through hot flames for a chance to live or face certain death if you don’t try it.

You’ll probably suffer unbelievable burns as you run through the flames, but you can survive and live a good life. In 5-10 years, FSU will not have the resources to compete with teams in the SEC or B1G with the ACC’s current structured deal.

One key point that some folks may have overlooked in Alford’s presentation was when the other conferences were up for new TV deals. Alford knew exactly when those negotiations would take place, and that’s where I get the five-year window.

In five years, the amount of money required to leave the ACC will be less, and FSU could join a new conference and add to the value of its TV deal that would help offset the amount of money required to leave.

Whatever it would cost to leave would mean FSU would likely make more money than whatever they would make if they stayed in the ACC through 2036. It’s simple math and business, and the numbers always find a way to work themselves out when parties are willing to work together.

FSU wants to work, and others likely want to work with them. It’s just a matter of time.
