FSU baseball (5-0) remained unbeaten with a 10-1 win over No. 8 TCU (3-2) Friday night. It was a pitcher’s duel early, with neither team doing much offensively through five innings.

However, FSU broke through for three runs in the top of the sixth inning for the eventual game-winning runs. They tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth and posted five more in the top of the ninth for good measure.

FSU starting pitcher Jackson Baumeister had a career game, pitching 5.2 innings with eight strikeouts, one hit, and two walks. He got two outs, allowed a hit, and walked a batter in the bottom of the sixth, with Wyatt Crowell relieving him from the bullpen.

Crowell struck out the lone batter to get out of the jam and finished the final 3.1 innings. Crowell finished with one hit, one unearned run, one walk, and six strikeouts. DeAmez Ross, James Tibbs, Jaime Ferrer, and Nander De Sedas all had multi-hit games.

Ferrer had two RBI, and Tibbs had three. The Noles pounded out 11 hits, five of them doubles, and drew three walks. FSU hitters started out slow with several strikeouts but started attacking in hitter counts to do major damage.

Highlights

FSU pitchers struck out 14 TCU batters, walked four, and only allowed two hits. It was a dominant performance on the road against a team ranked in the top 10.

I wrote in the preview I felt FSU would score runs against TCU, it was all about if the FSU pitching staff could keep the TCU offense in check. Mission accomplished, and they only used one arm out of the bullpen.

It’s the second solid start for Baumeister, who could stay the Friday starter if he can continue to put together quality outings like his first two. The Noles will look to clinch the series with a win in game two Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
