FSU basketball (8-20, 6-11 ACC, 5-10 home) is enduring the worst season in the Leonard Hamilton era. I know lots of FSU basketball fans and outsiders wonder how we got to this point.

In this piece, I will attempt to explain some of it and what should be next for the greatest FSU basketball coach of all time.

What Leonard Hamilton has accomplished at FSU is nothing short of remarkable. He took a below-average basketball program and made it relevant at an elite football school and in what was an elite basketball conference.

Hamilton is a three-time ACC Coach of the Year in a conference full of Hall of Famer basketball coaches(including himself) and claimed ACC Tournament and regular-season titles.

The stretch of years from 2014-2020 saw FSU basketball provide FSU fans something to cheer for as the football program eroded into the lowest abyss in most of our lifetimes.

Weirdly, it’s almost like the natural order of things has been restored, with football becoming relevant in the national scene this past season and basketball returning to mediocrity.

However, what we’re witnessing this season is hard to watch. Coach Hamilton has his faults, but he’s also been dealt a bad hand a few times. Let’s discuss how we got here.
