Difference Makers at Cornerback

Defensive back recruiting and development hasn’t been up to par in recent years, and that’s one reason Marcus Woodson is no longer on the staff, and Patrick Surtain Sr. got hired a few weeks ago.

The Noles took five prep defensive backs in the last recruiting cycle(three safeties and two cornerbacks). However, neither cornerback candidate enrolled early and likely need some development before they can get on the field for meaningful snaps.

After all, AZ Thomas was a top-100 recruit, and it took him a while to get on the field under the old cornerback’s coach. In time, I believe those 2023 signees can contribute and become solid players, but FSU has to get back to signing elite difference-makers at the cornerback position.

Patrick Surtain Sr. has already offered several players since getting hired, and FSU has gotten a ton of quality defensive backs on campus in January.

Some of those targets don’t have a ranking, but that will likely change since FSU seems to be free scouting university.
