FSU football: Explaining how FSU becomes elite for 2023 season
By Kelvin Hunt
Parting Thoughts
The issues surrounding FSU football over the past two seasons have been talent and depth issues. The coaching has been fine for the most part.
Remember what the offense looked like in 2020 with a bad offensive line and no talent at wide receiver? We saw it improve in 2021 towards the end of the season once Jordan Travis emerged behind an improving offensive line.
The 2022 offense appeared to be one of the better offenses with an improving Jordan Travis, offensive line, and talent from the transfer portal at wide receiver. The Noles will have even more talent on offense in 2023. I expect the defensive transfer portal additions to help the defense make a sizable jump in 2023. As long as Jordan Travis remains healthy, this team should be able to compete with any team in the nation.
There’s depth on the offensive line. The running back room is so stacked that a player like Treshaun Ward entered the transfer portal and has options like Kansas State, Tennessee, Auburn, and others. The wide receiver room returns everyone except Ontaria Wilson. Also, Winston Wright and Hykeem Williams will join the mix.
FSU got two of the best tight ends from the transfer portal in Jaheim Bell and Kyle Morlock. The defensive line will have the best depth it’s had in years and experience returns at linebacker.
They returned experience at safety with Akeem Dent and Shyheim Brown and added the best cornerback from the portal in All-ACC Fentrell Cypress. The talent and depth excuse won’t be there in 2023. The path to the elite will come down to execution.
