FSU football: Video highlights from ‘Noles win over Oklahoma
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football played its C game overall, and it was enough to outlast a talented Oklahoma Sooner team Thursday night in the Cheez-It Bowl.
There were a ton of outstanding plays, especially on offense, as the Noles finally found some rhythm in the second half after only scoring one touchdown in the first half.
I know folks were not happy with the defense, and they had some miscues for sure, but they made some major plays in the game to keep FSU in it while the offense stalled in the first half.
They finished with six sacks and 11 tackles for a loss. I couldn’t find any defensive video highlights, but here are some key plays from the game:
Video Highlights
Ontaria Wilson will be missed by this FSU offense. He’s a guy that got recruited by Jimbo Fisher when they were looking to land Tamorrion Terry in the 2017 recruiting class. When healthy, Wilson has always been a dependable and consistent receiver that showed up in big spots.
This play was no different as he snagged a nice pass from Jordan Travis to get his feet down in bounds with little room to spare. This play was their first touchdown in the game and gave the Noles some much-needed momentum.
Treshaun Ward was FSU’s No. 1 running back before an injury against NC State allowed Trey Benson to emerge. Benson struggled against Oklahoma, and it was Ward who picked up the slack.
The 38-yard touchdown run was a thing of beauty and a nice reminder of Ward’s value to the team.
Markeston Douglas has been a nice surprise this season and proof that FSU coaches can develop players. He always seems to catch passes with his hands, and this play is a prime example.
This throw was a dime from Jordan Travis, but the contested catch and attempt to stiff-arm the receiver in one motion were elite. As good as this catch was, it might not have been the most impressive. The third down conversion, where Wilson skied across the middle to snap the reception was up there as well, but I couldn’t find a clear video for it.
It’s scary to think of how good this FSU offense can be in 2023. If teams stack the box against them, they can beat teams through the air. If they drop guys in coverage they’ll run it down your throat. Coach Mike Norvell has built an incredible offense that should be elite in 2023.
