FSU football: Major takeaways from Cheez-It Bowl win over Oklahoma

Layoff Was A Factor
I’m not sure what the deal was in the first half. I expected both teams to be somewhat rusty after a month’s layoff.
However, FSU was more off than I expected. and it showed. Oklahoma seemed to play with much more fire early on and punched FSU in the mouth with an early 14-3 lead.
Oklahoma’s run defense had been poor during the season, and FSU struggled to run the ball with any regularity. They couldn’t convert on third downs and dropped passes.
The defense was missing a ton of tackles and failing to get off the field on third downs early.
The FSU offense eventually began to show some consistency and moved the ball well before stalling on some drives.
The FSU defense finally got some stops and forced an important turnover that may have been the difference in the game. Some of it was like FSU may have taken Oklahoma for granted because they knew several starters had opted out of the game.
I thought FSU would open the game on fire since they were playing for their 10th win and nearly all of the starters elected to play.
