FSU football got off to a sloppy start in the Cheez-It Bowl against Oklahoma Thursday night.

The offense bogged down much of the first half, only scoring 11 points, and the FSU defense struggled to get off the field at times.

However, the Noles overcame adversity and a 17-11 halftime deficit to defeat the Oklahoma Sooners 35-32. Oklahoma ran the ball 31 times in the first half, while FSU football only ran 33 offensive plays in total.

However, the FSU offense figured out some things in the second half, and the FSU defense got just enough stops to get FSU’s first 10-win season since 2016.

I must say, Jammie Robinson had to be the MVP of the defense with multiple tackles in his final FSU game.

Fan Reaction

Jordan Travis threw for 418 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also ran for 50 yards on seven carries.

Johnny Wilson had a monster game, with eight receptions for 202 yards. Ontaria Wilson had a strong effort in his final FSU game, finishing with five receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown. Treshaun Ward had 81 rushing yards and two touchdowns. FSU had 587 total yards offensively and was 5 of 12 on third down.

They averaged a robust 8.15 yards per play. FSU’s defense allowed 496 total yards on 74 plays for a 6.70 yards per play average. Oklahoma was nine of 18 on third downs and averaged 10.1 yards per pass. The game was 32-32 when FSU got the ball with 3:24 remaining.

The Noles moved downfield on a monster one-handed catch from Johnny Wilson and preceded to milk some clock running the ball. .

I didn’t like it, but it seemed like Mike Norvell played for the field goal, and Ryan Fitzgerald nailed one from 32 yards for a 35-32 lead with 55 seconds lefts.

The FSU defense allowed a nine-yard completion before back-to-back penalties backed them up for one final play. Jared Verse and Dennis Briggs smoked their offensive linemen to sack Dillon Gabriel to end the game.

It was FSU’s seventh sack on the night. It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win. We’ll have more takeaways from this game soon.
