FSU football: Transfer portal players more valuable than 5-stars?

Transfer Portal
Of course, the defensive scheme and overall defense can influence a player’s stats. I choose Jammie Robinson since he plays safety, just as Joyner and James did a lot of the time in their FSU careers.
Robinson came to FSU after appearing in 22 games at South Carolina. The 2020 season didn’t count toward his eligibility, which meant he had three years of eligibility remaining when he joined the program.
Robinson was a high three-star out of high school, ranked as the No. 393 player overall. He amassed 62 tackles as a freshman and 74 tackles in the 2020 COVID season before entering the transfer portal.
He’s a player with good production in his first two seasons, and 247 sports ranked him as a three-star transfer prospect despite that in his first two years. Here are the stats since arriving at FSU:
Jammie Robinson
- 2021 (So.): 84 tackles, seven tackles for a loss, four interceptions, three passes defended, two forced fumbles
- 2022 (Jr.): 86 tackles, four tackles for a loss, one interceptions, four passes defended, five QB hurries
The 2022 numbers are not final because he plans to play in the Cheez-It Bowl Thursday night. However, when you look at everything in totality, Robinson’s numbers are just as good as Derwin James, and arguably better than Joyner’s from a productive standpoint.
We’re talking about a former three-star playing at the level of two of the highest-ranked players in their recruiting classes and top NFL Draft picks. I chose those two FSU players because they were extremely productive at FSU, but what would happen if I lined up all of the five star and former blue-chip players that never panned out?
