Defensive Back

If you want to know how much FSU needs help in its secondary? Look no further than the five high school players signed last week.

However, FSU can’t count on those players to make an impact in 2023, though I like all of those guys to become contributors with a year of development.

FSU needs help now at cornerback for sure, and likely another safety if Jammie Robinson opts for the NFL Draft. FSU targeted UVA transfer Fentrell Cypress, who would be an immediate starter at cornerback. We’ll see if they can get him to enroll this spring.

There isn’t much-proven help in the transfer portal in the secondary beyond him, but that could change as more teams compete in their bowl games and players decide to enter the transfer portal.

FSU has to land at least one transfer, and Cypress would be a major addition. However, I’d like to see them take a safety if someone with talent and experience enters the portal.

If Robinson returns, they’ll most assuredly he and Akeem Dent after 2023, which leaves a huge void at safety, aside from Shyheim Brown.
