Record Is A Fraud
Syracuse surprised a lot of folks with their 31-7 win over Louisville in the season opener, but that game saw Louisville turn the ball over multiple times while averaging well over 6 ypp on offense.
Those two teams were much closer than the score. Aside from that win, Syracuse beat UConn, Purdue, Virginia, Wagner, and NC State.
That’s two non-Power 5 teams, a terrible Virginia team, an NC State team that had just lost their starting QB for the season against FSU, and a Purdue team that gave Syracuse a win at the end of the game.
They beat Purdue and UVA by a combined five points, and struggled to put NC State away when they had a full week to prepare for their backup QB.
They had four turnovers against Clemson and still lost. Notre Dame and Pittsburgh ran the ball down their throats.
FEI advanced metrics rank Syracuse at No. 34 overall, No. 45 offensively, and No. 36 defensively. FEI ranks FSU No. 15 overall, No. 19 offensively, and No. 39 defensively, but the latter is the healthiest it has been all season, unlike Syracuse.
