FSU football: Grading Miami keys to victory and bold predictions
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU will have over 600 yards of total offense (Bold Predictions)
Here’s an excerpt from what I said:
"He’s going to use Jordan Travis in the run game, he’ll likely be aggressive in his play-calling when deep in Miami territory. Miami has allowed a ton of explosive plays this year, and FSU is one of the most explosive offenses in the nation. FSU had over 600 offensive yards against a Georgia Tech defense that’s comparable to Miami in a lot of ways when it comes to advanced metrics. FSU did that with their starters sitting for much of the fourth quarter. Miami has allowed three teams to average over 6 ypp, but none of those teams have the ability to run the ball like FSU. I think FSU will establish the run game, just as they did against Georgia Tech, while also finding success through the air. The main difference against Miami is I expect Jordan Travis to be more of a factor in the run game, which will open the offense up more. FSU ranks No. 16 nationally in total offense at 487 ypg. If FSU runs 78 plays, they’d need to average 7.7 ypp to reach 600 yards."
I’ve so glad FSU football blew the doors off Miami, but I almost feel robbed on this bold prediction. The Noles were on pace to hit it at halftime, with 304 total yards on offense, but shut it down offensively in the second half. They averaged 8.5 yards per play in the first half and 7 ypp for the game, with Jordan Travis only attempting 12 passes.
FSU’s offense could have put up whatever number they wanted last night once they went up 14-3.
GRADE: A+
Overall, the Noles did an excellent job of nailing my keys to victory and I was pretty spot on in my bold predictions piece.
