FSU football will host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in week nine, and opened as huge betting favorites Sunday afternoon.

Georgia Tech is coming off a home loss as betting favorites against a Virginia team that hadn’t beaten a Power 5 program all season. FSU was a -17 point betting favorite over Boston College earlier this year and covered the spread in the first half.

However, Georgia Tech now takes the cake as the largest underdog against FSU football all season at -20.5 points. It’s a noon home game for the Noles, and the Yellow Jackets may be without their starting quarterback, Jeff Sims, who left the Virginia game with an ankle injury.

The dual-threat quarterback, formerly committed to FSU, depends on his mobility to play at his optimal level. It’s possible he could play, but have limitations with the injury. Georgia Tech has the benefit of a couple of additional days to prepare after playing Thursday night.

If Sims can’t play, Georgia Tech will turn to Zach Gibson, who has only appeared in two games this year. He’s the guy that ran out of bounds while scrambling to end the game instead of trying to throw one final pass against Virginia last week.

If he is the starter, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this number increase past three touchdowns. Their defense is their best unit, and they are adept at forcing turnovers with a +10 turnover margin, but their offense has been atrocious this season, only averaging 16 ppg, and that’s with Sims at quarterback.

They convert fewer than 30 percent of their third downs and average fewer than four yards per rush. It’s a game FSU should cover the spread as long as they don’t turn the ball over multiple times, but they have turned it over at least once in the last three games.
