FSU football: 5 critical situations that doomed FSU against Clemson
By Kelvin Hunt
1st and Goal Failure
The FSU defense finally forces a punt with 3:05 remaining in the third quarter with a 34-14 lead. The FSU defense marches 76 yards on 14 plays and gets the ball on the Clemson two-yard line.
They throw back-to-back incomplete passes to Johnny Wilson, and then Jordan Travis loses two yards, which brings up fourth, and goal from the four, and the pass to Toafili is broken up for another turnover on downs.
A touchdown there makes it 34-21 with 12:48 remaining, but instead the Noles come up empty on a critical short yardage situation.
I don’t know if the FSU defense would have stopped Clemson for another punt, but it at least gives you some life with a quarter to play.
FSU managed to score touchdowns on their next two possessions with a chance for an onside kick with two minutes remaining in the game. FSU left a ton of points on the board against a good Clemson defense.
