The Defense

I keep saying it time and time again, but the FSU offense continues to fail the Noles at the most inopportune time.

The FSU defense gets a stop on Clemson’s first offensive possession, and the Noles begin their drive at mid-field after a great punt return by Mycah Pittman and don’t score any points on that possession.

The fumble by Jordan Travis gives Clemson the ball at the FSU 42-yard line. The failed fake punt attempt gives Clemson the ball at the ball at the FSU 30.

The failure on the kickoff return team gave Clemson the ball at the FSU 31-yard line. That’s three positions and an opportunity for 21 points. Clemson got 17 points out of those three situations.

That’s exactly half of the 34 points they scored in the game.

Clemson’s average starting field position was their 36-yard line, and FSU’s average starting field position was their 21-yard line. FSU’s defense has room to improve for sure, but that unit always gives the Noles a fighting chance despite how banged up it is.
