FSU football: Top 5 major keys to defeating Clemson Tigers
By Kelvin Hunt
Limit Missed Tackles
The FSU defense has been the most consistent unit on the field for the Noles in 2022. They average 10 fewer points per game compared to through six games last year and have allowed the Noles a chance to win every game on the schedule.
They are better on third downs through the first six games, 34.18 compared to 41.65 percent through six games last year.
The crazy thing is FSU’s third down defense should be even better, considering the tackles missed on third downs this season. I can’t count the number of tackles missed resulting in third downs for opposing teams.
The players are usually in position to make a play, which is good, but they have to do a better job of getting guys on the ground instead of allowing them to fall forward for two or three yards.
Missed tackles were a reason the Noles lost last year’s game, with Clemson running back Will Shipley running through arm tackles and making guys miss in space.
