The two teams traded field goals on their first possessions before Clemson kicked another field goal for a 6-3 lead.
However, NC State answered with their first touchdown to take a 10-6 lead before Clemson answered with a touchdown just before halftime to take a 13-10 lead.
Clemson scored a touchdown on their first possession in the third quarter to extend the lead to 20-10 before NC State answered with a field goal on their next possession to trim the lead to 20-13.
Clemson missed a field goal but intercepted a Devin Leary pass and converted that turnover into a field goal for a 23-13 lead with 14:16 remaining in the game.
The two teams traded punts before Clemson took advantage of an NC State fumble to convert the turnover into a touchdown for a 30-13 lead with three minutes remaining. NC State scored a garbage-time touchdown to make the final score more respectable.
NC State scored 20 points, averaged 4.04 yards per play, and was 5 of 14 on third downs. They had 10 penalties for 86 yards and two turnovers.
Clemson averaged 5.20 ypp, was 6 of 14 on third downs and had zero turnovers. Clemson had nine penalties for 95 yards.
Against FSU NC State scored 19 points and averaged 4.44 yards ypp, and was 2 of 13 on third downs. They had eight penalties for 70 yards.
FSU football averaged 6.67 ypp and was 5 of 13 on third downs. They had 10 penalties for 100 yards and two turnovers.
FSU dominated NC State in the first-half, taking a 17-3 lead in to halftime, which included a dropped touchdown pass that would have made it 24-3. FSU went scoreless in the second half with multiple drops and turnovers on their final two possessions.
