FSU football: 3 overreactions to ‘Noles loss against NC State

Mike Norvell Called A Conservative Second Half
In real-time, it seemed like Mike Norvell called a ton of run plays that got stopped for no gain, and some concluded he was trying to shorten the game in the second half with a touchdown lead. However, I don’t believe that’s the case. Here’s the first possession in the second half:
-1st and 10: Run for loss of four yards
-2nd and 14: Completed pass for seven yards
-3rd and 7: Incomplete pass
2nd possession
-1st and 10: Run for 14 yards
-1st and 10: Run for 3 yards
-2nd and 7: Incomplete pass
-3rd and 7: Incomplete pass(Dropped)
3rd Possession
-1st and 10: Completed pass for 9 yards
-2nd and 1: Penalty on Dillon Gibbons
-3rd and 17: Incomplete pass
4th possession
-1st and 10: Run for no gain
-2nd and 10: Incomplete pass
-3rd and 10: Incomplete pass (Dropped)
5th possession
-1st and 10: Interception
6th possession
-1st and 10: Run for one yard
-2nd and 9: Pass completed for 10 yards
-1st and 10: Run for loss of two yards
-2nd and 12: Pass completed for 31 yards
-1st and 10: Run for two yards
-2nd and 8: Pass completed for seven yards
-3rd and 1: Run for four yards
-1st and 10: Run for two yards
-2nd and 8: Interception
I mean, that’s a whole lot of passing for someone that wants to shorten the game and be conservative. It was a combination of poor field position, untimely penalties, turnovers, and dropped passes more than Mike Norvell trying to be conservative in the second half.
