FSU football: Will LSU have an elite defense in 2022?
By Kelvin Hunt
Final Thoughts
One consistent message we’ve heard from FSU football players is it’s not about what LSU does but what FSU does. Let me translate that message.
That means FSU believes LSU will give up plays on defense, but it’s up to FSU players to make the plays when those opportunities present themselves.
LSU’s defense will make plays behind the scrimmage, but they’ll also give up explosive plays in the run and passing game. They allowed 67 runs of 10+ yards, 19 runs of 20+ yards, and eight runs of 30+ yards in 2021.
LSU allowed 46 pass plays of 20+ yards, 19 pass plays of 30+ yards, and seven pass plays of 40+ yards.
The question is, has FSU football upgraded enough at quarterback, offensive line, and wide receiver positions to make the plays compared to last year?
The key to it all is the offensive line, Jordan Travis, and the skill players making the plays. I believe the opportunities will be there, especially in game one under a new defensive coordinator and a lot of new faces in the secondary.
Either way, we’ll find out Sunday night.
