Johnny Wilson-WR

A lot of FSU football pundits have tabbed Johnny Wilson as some sort of hit-or-miss type of player. Here’s what I do know.

He was an early enrollee, which is an important caveat in learning the offense, and you can’t teach 6’7″ and 230 pounds at the wide receiver position.

He’s physically ready to play and had solid production in limited action at Arizona State.

He had 18 receptions for 243 yards and one touchdown in only eight games. If we project that production out to 12 games, that’s probably between 25-30 receptions and 400 receiving yards with a couple of touchdowns.

Newsflash, those numbers would best any wide receiver from FSU last season. I think that’s likely about where we can expect Wilson’s production to fall in 2022, but maybe a higher uptick in touchdowns because I expect Mike Norvell to target him in the red zone quite a bit.

Wilson will also impact the running game. He’s a great blocker and should have no problem moving smaller defensive backs on running plays towards the perimeter or on screen passes.
