FSU football picked up their second defensive back commitment in as many days with the addition of 2023 three-star Jabril Rawls.

The Noles needed some recruiting momentum with so many targets on campus.

2022 graduate transfer Malik Feaster completed the 2022 recruiting class Sunday, and Rawls is the first cornerback to join the Noles in 2023.

Rawls announced the commitment via his Twitter account Monday afternoon after camping at FSU over the weekend.

Rawls has 19 offers, including Power 5 offers from Boston College, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi State, Washington State, and West Virginia.

He lists at 6’1″ and 170 pounds. He ranks as the No. 998 player overall and No. 97 cornerback. He has been to FSU several times this year, earning an offer in March, and the coaches have seen him compete face-to-face at camp several times.

They have been solid in their player evaluations at defensive back, so the low ranking doesn’t scare me. Rawls has good length and seems to play with a chip on his shoulder. Though accepting this commitment right now could be the coaching staff looking to have some fruits of their labor from the event this weekend so to speak.

There is a couple of blue-chip targets that will likely announce their potential commitments sometime in July, but Rawls will be a solid addition for depth at the very least. He also hails from the Florida panhandle, where FSU needs more of a recruiting presence.

Rawls plays two-ways on his high school team, and returns punts, which could be an additional bonus on special teams. Rawls had 36 tackles and two interceptions in eight games last season.

He is the 11th commitment for 2023 and moves the Noles up to No. 39 overall, which still doesn’t include a ranking for JUCO defensive end Jaden Jones.
