FSU football: Can 2022 Noles resemble 2015 team stats wise?
By Kelvin Hunt
Raw Numbers Comparison
Dalvin Cook carried the 2015 offense with 1,691 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. The Noles had 2,187 rushing yards that season and ran the ball 33 times per game.
From a passing perspective, Sean Maguire and Everett Golson combined for 22 TDs and nine interceptions, with 3,325 passing yards in 13 games, while averaging 32 attempts.
Travis Rudolph (59 receptions), Kermit Whitfield (57 receptions), and Jesus Wilson (58 receptions) were the passing attack. The 2021 team rushed for 2,132 yards and had 2,419 passing yards with 20 TDs and 12 interceptions (Jordan Travis had 15 TD and six interceptions).
IF Jordan Travis can remain healthy, I think it’s fair to project FSU’s passing offense to be similar to the 2015 version, but the production at wide receiver will be spread across more players. One thing to note is the FSU offensive line only allowed 26 sacks in 2015.
The Noles allowed 36 sacks in 2021, so that’s an area that will need to improve and should improve with a better offensive line and better QB play.
Also, the FSU defense had 76 tackles for a loss and 32 sacks. The 2021 defense had 87 tackles for a loss and 33 sacks.
The difference is the FSU defense will face better QB play in 2022 compared to the offenses played in 2015.
Will the experience and continuity returning on both sides of the ball be enough to allow FSU to produce numbers similar to 2015? I think it’s possible.
