Running Backs Slightly Better Than 2021

The running back group lost Jashaun Corbin to the NFL, who accounted for a large percentage of their production in 2021. Treshaun Ward and Lawrance Toafili return along with Oregon transfer Trey Benson.

I think it’s easy to project Benson to replace Corbin’s production as long as he remains healthy. Can Toafili find a way to remain healthy and produce at a higher clip? Can Ward find another level after trailing off in the second half of last season?

We’ll talk about it later, but the offensive line and production of Jordan Travis can impact how well this running back unit does as well. All FSU running backs averaged 4.7 yards per carry or higher last year, and the offensive line should be at good or better than last year.

My biggest question revolves around how they plan to use all three running backs? Corbin was the workhorse last season, with Ward sharing the workload.

This unit isn’t going to blow your socks off, but I think they have the potential to be better in 2022. However, that will depend on how well Trey Benson acclimates to the offense and if Toafili can find ways to get on the field more.
