FSU football: 2023 recruiting class has solid foundation in trenches
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football doesn’t have the highest-ranked 2023 recruiting class, but it’s setting up to have an excellent foundation in the trenches. No doubt there are some holes to fill and question marks with some positional recruiting boards.
I know fans want the shiny blue-chip wide receivers and running backs. However, most games are won in the trenches, and that’s where the majority of the focus has been over the past year or so.
The offensive and defensive line haul FSU secured in the 2022 recruiting cycle was impressive and continues into 2023. I know Miami has all of the recruiting hype in the world of late, but that’s an area they have negated thus far.
Roderick Kearney, Keith Sampson, Lamont Green Jr., and Jaden Jones are two interior monsters and two pass rushers off the edge, and is only the beginning of what’s possible.
The Noles could add to their trench haul this month with the potential additions of top-100 player Keldric Faulk and one of the top offensive linemen in Lucas Simmons.
Those two players alone would improve the class ranking by about 20 spots. There are other players like Tavion Gadson and DJ Chester as possibilities. FSU has a few skill position players that they are in a good position with as well.
I know the ranking may not be what FSU football fans want, and there is a huge need for recruiting momentum. In fact, Tuesday could signal that momentum if Keldric Faulk commits to the Noles tomorrow, followed by a potential commitment from blue-chip safety Avery Stuart.
I have questions about where FSU is going with cornerbacks, tight ends, and linebackers. However, the trenches look solid for the Noles, and if that continues would be a solid foundation to help turn this program around for Mike Norvell and the staff.
