Final Thoughts

There are some other potential candidates out there, and I don’t believe the next guy HAS to have ties to the FSU program. I know some people like Jeff Johnson, head coach at Chipola College, a junior college in Florida.

Johnson’s won multiple JUCO national titles and has a proven track record of winning. However, winning at the JUCO level and winning in the ACC are different animals. There are other guys that played professionally that may be interested, but I’d prefer someone with Power 5 coaching experience.

As I mentioned, I believe Michael Alford already knows who he wants to hire, and that process may already be underway from a preliminary standpoint.

Of course, Link Jarrett’s team is still competing, so they have to be respectful of that situation if he’s the guy. If they are still competing and a press conference gets called next week, I think it’s safe to say it’s someone else.

Either way, I expect the new hire to happen quickly, as I mentioned on the podcast. Friday’s announcement was sad but exciting at the same time.

I know Mike Maritn Jr. wants this program to do well, and he wanted to be the guy to bring a national title home for his father.

However, new direction and new blood could be just what the program needs to compete for championships again.
