FSU baseball: My top 3 candidates to replace Mike Martin Jr.
By Kelvin Hunt
Link Jarrett (Head Coach Notre Dame)
Truthfully, Link Jarrett isn’t No. 1. I’m sorry, I lied. He’s No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5. The Notre Dame head coach has ties to FSU baseball, playing for Mike Martin Sr. from 1991 to 1994.
He coached at FSU in 2003 before moving on to Mercer, East Carolina, and Auburn before taking the head coaching job at UNC-Greensboro. Jarrett turned around a floundering Spartan’s program, finishing with a 215-166 record.
Jarrett was in the mix the last time FSU baseball had an opening, but the Noles decided to hire Mike Martin Jr. Jarrett took the job at Notre Dame shortly after, posting an 84-29 record in his three seasons, and made the NCAA Super Regionals the last two seasons.
Notre Dame defeated FSU baseball in all four games this season.
His team defeated No. 1 seed Tennessee Friday night in game one of the Super Regionals. Notre Dame has been one of the best-coached teams in the nation since he became head coach, and they play sound fundamental baseball in all three phases.
They are among the top teams in the ACC in hitting, pitching, and fielding. Jarrett is the type of proven coach that could help keep the highly-ranked FSU commits in future classes in tact as well.
