Recruiting Philosophy

The challenge has been getting enough of those average to slightly above average players to sign. They haven’t been perfect, but I think Mike Norvell and the staff have done well understanding where the program is from a reputation standpoint.

Instead of chasing players they know they can’t sign, coaches have spent more time looking for those average to slightly above average players they can realistically sign.

At the same time, develop and improve the product on the field, which improves the reputation and re-establishes the program’s prestige.

They’ve also done a great job in the transfer portal to help expedite the process. Once FSU gets back to 8-10 wins per year, the bell curve changes again, and those top students(five-star players in high school and the top portal guys) may consider them an option again.

It’s just how things work in the real world. It’s no different than a guy or woman obtaining a job that puts them in a different tax bracket.

Of course, there are other factors, but money and material possessions allows one to attract people they wouldn’t have before. NIL and recruiting works the same way too. It all goes hand-in-hand.
