One of the hot topics for FSU football with fans always revolves around recruiting. After all, recruiting is the lifeblood of a program, and the quality of your players is the most important thing.

The old saying from Jimmy Johnson, “It’s not the X’s and the O’s, but the Jimmys and the Joes that make the difference,” remains true, and the quality of players FSU has signed over the last half-decade isn’t the same as it was from 2010-2017.

FSU football hasn’t signed a composite five-star player since the 2017 recruiting class, and the blue-chip ratio for high school players has dipped below 50 percent since the 2018 recruiting cycle.

The lack in quality of players and recruiting misses have resulted in sup-par performances on the field.

Those performances have resulted in a losing record since 2018, which has resulted in elite players choosing to go elsewhere.

Thus, the bell curve for FSU football recruiting has changed over the last five years for fans that wonder why FSU hasn’t signed any five-stars.

It’s true that recruiters recruit, but there’s also reality to how recruiting works. Let’s talk about it.
