FSU offensive line coach Alex Atkins recruited Mims out of high school until he signed with Georgia. There’s a relationship there that Miami can’t match as FSU was in Mims’ final list of schools.

If and when FSU gets Mims on campus, it’ll likely be in a setting where it’s only Amarius Mims, his family, the coaches and some current players. Mims visited FSU while in high school, so he’ll be familiar with how things go. The coaches will be able to have that personal conversation with him about how he fits in at FSU football.

They will be able to create that family atmosphere. FSU coaches have someone they can point to that Mims will be able to relate to in Jermaine Johnson. Johnson transferred from Georgia to FSU and will be a top 15 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

One of the most important factors will be how the current players recruit Mims. Most of them have been with Mike Norvell, and Alex Atkins for a couple of years, unlike most Miami players with Cristobal. That recruiting pitch will be different than what he hears at Miami.

FSU players can talk about the tangible growth experienced, as opposed to the coaches only being at Miami for a couple of months. FSU reportedly is working on a great NIL package for Mims as well. FSU has instant playing time available and is closer to Mims’s home in Georgia.
