Pass Rush

One of the biggest question marks for Adam Fuller and the FSU football defense is how will they address the pass rush void of Jermaine Johnson and Keir Thomas departing?

Their presence and production are two huge reasons the defense improved so much last year. The coaching staff knew they needed help in that department, which is why they signed Jared Verse from the transfer portal.

He seems to be coming on strong, but the development of Derrick McLendon could be one of the biggest storylines. I think we know what we’ll get from Dennis Briggs Jr., who’s moving back out to defensive end after moving to defensive tackle last year.

Leonard Warner will help in a role similar to Keir Thomas. Mike Norvell mentioned Patrick Payton by name after the scrimmage.

Then there’s Byron Turner Jr. and George Wilson. I don’t think anyone expects these guys to equal the production of Johnson and Thomas, but I think it’s safe to say they could be effective enough for the defense not to fall off considerably in 2022.
