FSU football cornerback Jarvis Brownlee finally enters the transfer portal after missing much of the spring. Brownlee was a starter and the fifth leading tackler on the 2021 team.

He had 51 tackles, two tackles for a loss, a forced fumble, and three passes defended in 12 games.

However, most FSU fans remember him for getting beat for the game-winning touchdown against Jacksonville State.

A gritty and physical player with a dawg mentality, Brownlee struggled in coverage against faster receivers and was going to be in a battle to keep his starting position in 2022.

This spring saw Brownlee act out on social media on several occasions, often complaining and trolling the team.

It wasn’t a good look, and those actions turned the FSU football fans against Brownlee:

Thoughts

I posted on social media I thought Mike Norvell would wait Jarvis Brownlee out and make him put himself in the transfer portal. It sends a message to the team that a guy who started last year can’t do whatever he wants.

It also tells me Mike Norvell likes what he has at the defensive back position, and losing Brownlee to the portal isn’t that big of a deal. Defensive back is one unit on the team with ample talent and depth, not to mention they enrolled a top 100 cornerback in Azareye’h Thomas, who enrolled this spring and looks to be on the fast track to playing time as a freshman.

I liked Brownlee’s mentality on the field, but his immaturity off the field isn’t something this program needs. It’s addition by subtraction, especially when it comes to the culture building in Tallahassee right now.

It’ll be interesting to see where Brownlee ends up, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him wind up at FAU with Willie Taggart like so many FSU players he signed that have entered the transfer portal. However, he hasn’t practiced all spring and won’t have much time to acclimate wherever he goes before the season starts.
