Reserve LSU running back says they’ll beat FSU football in 2022
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football will play LSU in the second game of the 2022 season. It’ll be the season opener for LSU, and one reserve player is already talking smack.
Former five-star running back John Emery felt the need to say FSU was “still gon lose” against LSU in 2022.
I call Emery a reserve because he played limited snaps in 2019 and 2020 before an academically ineligible issue forced him to miss all of the 2021 season.
LSU brought in Penn State transfer running back Noah Cain and will have sophomores Corey Kiner and Armoni Goodwin returning.
However, Emery rejoined the team a few weeks ago and will have to compete for playing time.
Thoughts
I get he’s excited about getting back on the team with the opportunity to play again. However, the LSU running game wasn’t exactly the best in the nation, averaging 3.33 yards per rush and only eight rushing touchdowns from their running backs all season.
They were not great in 2020, averaging 3.33 yards per rush and nine touchdowns. FSU wasn’t a great team last year(neither was LSU), but their run defense wasn’t bad at all. FSU was No. 30 nationally, allowing 3.33 yards per rush, and will return two of the better defensive tackles in the ACC in 2022.
I’m not projecting FSU football to beat LSU just yet. However, I don’t think it’s going to be a walk in the park the way some fans, and apparently, players may think who are not aware of what Mike Norvell is building in Tallahassee.
The Noles will have one game to shake some rust off before traveling to Louisiana to play the Tigers in the Superdome. LSU had a new head coach and a lot of other new position coaches.
It might take some time for the Tigers to get things rolling, so I wouldn’t count the Noles out, especially when they should go into that game healthy without the wear and tear of several games affecting health at key positions.
