FSU softball (27-2, 7-2 ACC) won the rubber match and the series against Boston College Sunday afternoon 4-0 in front of the home crowd.

The Noles shutout the Eagles 4-0 in game one and were shutout themselves 2-0 in an extra-inning affair in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader. The loss snapped a seven game winning streak. I mentioned the Boston College squad was scrappy in the preview despite their nearly .500 record, and that proved true.

Boston College pitchers held the Noles in check all weekend aside from a few key hits that proved to be difference-makers in winning the series.

FSU pitchers dominated Boston College, only allowing 13 hits in the series. Kathryn Sandercock and Danielle Watson combined for 18 strikeouts and four walks.

Both teams played excellent defense, especially Boston College in their game two win. The series was affected by the weather with delayed games and changing from the doubleheader moving from Saturday to Sunday.

The FSU offense didn’t score a ton of runs in the series but it wasn’t because they didn’t put the ball in play.

They managed 13 hits and 17 walks and left 21 runners on base. It was a matter of bad luck, hitting balls right at defenders in some key situations, or striking out. However, they don’t seem to be hitting the ball hard as consistently as they were earlier in the year.

That’s something I want to keep an eye on in the next few non-conference games. FSU softball won’t play another conference game until April 1st.

The Noles will return to action against Troy in midweek action for a two-game series on Wednesday and Thursday before playing a two-game series against FIU on Friday and Saturday.

Wednesday’s game will begin at 6 p.m and Thursday’s game will begin at 4 p.m., with both games airing on ESPN+.
