QB Room

One thing that’s starting to come to fruition is the staff’s reasoning for not taking a transfer quarterback before the spring semester. I was one supporting the proponent to take a transfer quarterback to compete with Jordan Travis.

I wrote my reasoning here. However, the staff are with Tate Rodemaker and AJ Duffy every day and have more insight. It looks as though they believed both could eventually develop into serviceable backups this season in the event Jordan Travis got injured.

It looks like they could be right after the first four spring practices. Mike Norvell commented that Tate Rodemaker had some of his best practices since he’s been at FSU. He’s played with confidence, poise and made some good throws.

Freshmen AJ Duffy looks to be ahead of schedule. Norvell commented on his ability to retain information, and they have not watered down any of the offense for him. That bodes well, especially since anyone the coaching staff could likely get from the transfer portal at this point wouldn’t have much time to learn the offense and make a difference when they arrived in the summer.

It was a gamble, but that recruiting spot can go to someone else and help address other needs.
