Importance of Spring Practice

I’ve talked about it before on the site and the Built For Playmakers Podcast, but the importance of having so much continuity returning can’t be understated. It’s something Mike Norvell mentioned in his press conference, and I think it’s another reason why all of the advanced metrics like FSU football in 2022.

FSU has several players who have gone through spring practice before, and they know what the expectations are now. The influx of talent from the transfer portal, most of who have a couple of years of college experience under their belt, helps add to that. Mike Norvell mentioned a few of them, like linebacker Tatum Bethune and running back Trey Benson.

They’ve at least experienced what a spring environment is like, which should be helpful in their acclimation at FSU. Now, it’s all about veterans fine-tuning things and younger players taking the next step in their development.

Mike Norvell specifically mentioned some offensive line players like Lloyd Willis, Thomas Schrader, Zane Herring, and Robert Orr. Norvell spoke about the continued growth on and off the field for quarterback Jordan Travis.

It’s all about taking the next step to reach his full potential. This spring will be the first where Travis will assume the starting position, so I’m curious to see how much progress he’ll make in these 15 practices. I fully believe FSU football will go as he goes in 2022.
