Secondary

The FSU football secondary hasn’t lived up to its DBU moniker the last few years. However, the secondary showed some improvement over the past couple of seasons. They only allowed a completion rate of 58 percent, defended 43 passes and had 14 interceptions.

The latter is the highest total since the 2016 season. Some of that success is a result of the improved pass rush from Johnson and Thomas. The good news is the Noles have talent in the secondary unit and return all of their starters and two talented top 100 recruits in Sam McCall and Azareye’h Thomas.

All-ACC safety Jammie Robinson will be a starter. Akeem Dent could be the other safety starter as he emerged last year. However, there will be competition for the other positions. Will Jarvis Brownlee hold onto his starting spot at cornerback?

Kevin Knowles played a lot early, and Omarion Cooper came on strong in the second half. Will Demorie Tate ever become a factor? Will Sydney Williams get back into the lineup after dealing with injuries in the second half of the season?

Where does Louisville transfer Greedy Vance factor? Then there’s Shyheim Brown, Hunter Washington, Travis Jay, Jarrion Jones, Renardo Green, and Jarques McClellion. FSU will play a lot of nickel defense, but there are still a lot of bodies vying for snaps.
