Offensive Line

There are a lot of narratives and debates about the offensive line on social media. Some fans believe the unit improved, while others believe that improvement was a by-product of Jordan Travis’s ability to escape pressure with his legs.

The group has more serviceable parts and depth than in years past. However, one glaring weakness was at the center position, with Maurice Smith playing injured and not anchoring well. Running plays were over before they started because of pressure allowed up the middle. However, FSU looked to address that by adding Wisconsin transfer Kayden Lyles.

They also added Bless Harris from the portal, who can play multiple positions and would like to add another tackle if possible. Dontae Lucus, Baveon Johnson, Jalen Goss, Ira Henry, and Brady Scott are no longer on the roster compared to last year.

Most of those guys were not playing much aside from Johnson at times. However, young players like Robert Scott Jr., Rod Orr, Thomas Schrader, Zane Herring, Lloyd Willis, Bryson Estes will need to step up for snaps in 2022.

FSU coaches have said they’d like to have a solid eight players to rotate in and out, and it looks like they could have a solid number of dependable players at this spot if everyone stays healthy and continues to develop.
