FSU softball: Noles host Florida A&M in mid-week matchup
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU softball (10-0, 0-0) will look to stay unbeaten as they host Florida A&M in a mid-week matchup. This matchup got canceled last year in the season opener
The Noles defeated No. 3 UCLA in walk-off fashion in their last outing Sunday night in what felt like a playoff atmosphere.
FSU pitcher’s Danielle Watson and Kathryn Sandercock were solid, against a potent lineup.
The FSU softball defense wasn’t ideal with a couple of errors, but the offense did enough to overcome them. Florida A&M (1-8) has lost six consecutive games coming into Wednesday night, albeit against good competition.
FAMU batters are hitting .188 while striking out 30.5 percent of the time. They’ve hit zero home runs, seven doubles, and zero triples with an on-base percentage of .272.
When it comes to aggressiveness on the basepaths, they are 13 of 16 on stolen base attempts, with Jania Davis going 10 of 10. Defensively, they’ve committed 20 errors for a .909 field percentage.
FAMU pitchers allow a .297 batting average with 25 strikeouts against 35 walks. They have allowed 12 home runs and 15 more extra-base hits.
This is a game where FSU softball should win comfortably while getting some younger players in the game to build depth.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Emma Wilson (1-0, 1.62 ERA) make her second start of the season on the mound with Sandercock and Watson throwing so much in the Invitational Classic. Opposing batters are hitting .194 against her with six strikeouts against one walk in 8.2 innings. Breanna Enter could make an appearance as well.
It’s also a game where players like Jahni Kerr and Sydney Sherrill can find some confidence at the plate, after struggling the past few games. If you haven’t watched FSU softball play yet, I’d encourage you to give them a look. It’s a fun and exciting group to watch in action!
The game will begin at 6 p.m. ET on the ACCNX channel.
