FSU baseball: Takeaways from series sweep over James Madison
By Kelvin Hunt
Defense
One of the things plaguing the Noles the past few seasons has been too many errors behind a great pitching staff.
Those extra opportunities made things tougher on an offense that struggled to score runs consistently. The Noles averaged over an error per game last season.
The talk in the preseason was the Noles were improved defensively and more athletic. It looks that way early, even with FSU baseball missing their starting shortstop Jordan Carrion. FSU had a clean sheet in the first game of the series, committed two errors in game two, and had another clean sheet in game three.
There may have been a couple of plays they should have made ruled as hits, but overall the defense was solid for the Noles when it mattered.
It helps when the pitching staff strikes out the majority of the batters and limits the opportunities they have to make plays.
If the defense can play with this consistency all year, this FSU baseball team will be difficult to score runs against.
The Noles will return to action Tuesday when they host Jacksonville at 6 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN+.
